The Congress has declared the names of candidates for four of the six assembly seats that will go to polls on October 21.

Two other names are likely to be released late at night or early on Monday. September 30 is the last date for filing of nominations for the six assembly seats- Kheralu, Tharad, Lunawada, Amraiwadi, Bayad and Radhanpur - where by polls are being held.

The BJP, meanwhile, has not declared the name of any of its candidates for the six seats. Gulabsinh Rajput and Jasubhai Patel are the Congress' candidates for the Tharad and Bayad seat while Dharmendra Patel and Gulabsinh Chauhan will be contesting on the party's ticket from Amraiwadi and Lunawada.

Dharmendra Patel was one of the strong contenders for Amraiwadi. His supporters soon reached his residence on Sunday after the announcement and began celebrations after his name was finalised. In all, 43 nomination forms have been collected for the Amraiwadi seat alone.

Except for Bayad and Radhanpur all the other four constituencies fell vacant after BJP MLAs got elected to the lower house of the Parliament.

Radhanpur and Bayad seats fell vacant after Alpesh Thakor and Dhavalsinh Zala, who had won the seat respectively on a Congress ticket in 2017, left the party. The two quit Congress after voting for the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha election.

The Congress candidate from Radhanpur is likely to be one among Dr Govind Thakor, Raghubhai Desai and Navin Chaudhary, who belong to the prominent communities that make up a substantial voter chunk of the seat.

POLL PREPARATIONS

Gulabsinh Rajput and Jasubhai Patel are the candidates for Tharad and Bayad while Dharmendra Patel and Gulabsinh Chauhan will be fighting from Amraiwadi and Lunawada.
