Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has directed all the ministers in his team to devote their total concentrations for the local government bodies polls to be held in their areas. The Gujarat State Election Commission announced the polls on Monday and the voting will be held on February 4. The ruling party, BJP, is trying hard to win the hearts of the voters in the poll-bound areas after the lukewarm response they got in recently-held assembly polls.

A senior minister in Gujarat government said on condition of anonymity, “There is a single line order from the CM to concentrate fully on the local government bodies polls and that is our priority. The cabinet meeting was held last week but no any major decision was taken in that, and the entire government will take another 15 to 20 days to be on track after the polls. Meanwhile, we have been visiting the poll bound areas in the weekends and have been conducting meetings there.”

The Gujarat BJP also has been putting all its efforts for these elections to stake the claim that voters in state have trust in BJP. The party chief Jitu Vaghani also had said addressing the party leaders in the meeting held in last week, that the BJP should win all the elections in Gujarat before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He also said that this would help the party to regain the faith in people and enthusiasm among the workers.

A senior party leader said, “The local government bodies polls are to be held in rural and semi-urban areas where BJP could not perform well. We have only 20 to 25 days to go in which we have to create the favourable situation for BJP. Besides the ministers, party has asked all the MLAs and MPs to stay focused on these polls.” As many as 1,423 village panchayats, 75 nagar palikas, 17 taluka panchayats and 2 district panchayats are going for polls on February 04 and counting will be held on February 06. A senior bureaucrat in Gujarat government said, “The CM and his team is busy with the local government bodies polls and that is why there is no any important direction on state-level issues. The things will catch the pace once the local government bodies polls are over.”
