52 foodstalls at Kankaria Lakefront don’t have licence; Congress councillor writes to AMC
In a shocking revelation regarding health license, the south zone health department of Ahmedabad civic body has admitted that they haven't issued food licence to the food stalls at the Kankaria Lakefront since 2008!
Congress councillor Shahnawaz Shaikh has written to the department regarding issuing food license to the food stalls on the premises of Kankaria lakefront!
"I have received a reply from the health department of south zone that they haven't issued any licence to the food stalls at Kankaria Lakefront since 2008. There are 52 stalls allotted to the premises since 2008," said Shaikh. "This is shocking! How can the units run without a proper licence? The health department is not worried for the health and safety of the people," added Shaikh. When asked to the in-charge medical officer of health of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Bhavin Solanki said they have issued licences. "I have a list of food stall who had been issued licenses. There are 15 shops which have been given licenses. The councillor have asked a question to south zone who are no issuing authority," said Dr Solanki.
When asked that there are only 15 licenses have been issued against the 52 shop, Dr Solanki remained silent. "I have a letter received by the AMC. Moreover, there are 52 stalled which I myself have counted and checked. Even when I had asked them to show their license, none of them had the document," claimed Shaikh.
"How could the health department not visit the place even once in ten years and checked the stalls? The place receives so many visitors daily. Their health is at stake.," added Shaikh.
However, since October 2017, the civic body doesn't have the authority to issue food licenses after the directive of Urban Development Department of the state.
