After uncovering the nexus of politicians and police officers in fake encounter cases in the state, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to tighten the noose around officers of the state and Intelligence Bureau (IB). CBI sleuths have got crucial information about the wrong inputs.

The agency has almost completed its probe regarding the role of police officers and politicians in Sohrabuddin, Sadik Jamal and Ishrat fake encounter cases.

During investigation, it came to fore that wrong intelligence inputs were created prior to the encounters. The agency found a similar pattern of generating intelligence input right before the encounter and general reasons shown that the persons eliminated were planning a bid to assassinate chief minister Narendra Modi and some Hindu leaders.

“At least we can say that the bad role of intelligence officers have come to the fore in Sadik Jamal fake encounter case. Jamal was actually in custody - first of Mumbai police and then Gujarat police. Hence, there is no doubt that the intelligence input generated for arrival of Sadik was a wrong one,” said a source close to the probe.

“After the encounter of Jamal, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) had wrongly claimed that it had received intelligence inputs that Jamal was on a mission to eliminate the chief minister,” said the source.

The nexus of politicians and traders has been revealed in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati cases. The CBI has filed a charge sheet against former Rajasthan home minister Gulabchand Kataria and marble trader Vimal Pattni. The alleged extortion racket run by Sohrabuddin, wherein influential marble traders of Rajasthan were victims, was behind his elimination in a joint operation of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh police.

According to sources, CBI is also puzzled about how wrong intelligence input was created prior to the killing of Sohrabuddin. DCB and Rajasthan police had also claimed that they had intelligence inputs about the arrival of Sohrabuddin for killing Modi.

The CBI is also probing this aspect in  the Ishrat case. After the killing of Ishrat and three others, DCB had claimed that it had intelligence inputs that the four were on a mission to execute Modi. According to the DCB version, the inputs were received by city police commissioner KR Kaushik and conveyed to then DCB chief PP Pandey. CBI is now in search of Pandey, who has been absconding, and KR Kaushik is also an accused in the case. After questioning them, CBI may be able to ascertain the modus operandi of Gujarat police about generating wrong intelligence inputs.
