On Lord Krishna’s birthday, automobile dealers in Ahmedabad are luring potential buyers with gifts, discounts and freebies… and their gamble has paid off! Though an official number hasn’t been arrived at, but hundreds of cars and thousands of two-wheelers have been lined up for delivery on Wednesday.
Almost every automotive brand, except the luxury segment, is offering discount of Rs15,000 to Rs1.5 lakh. Ads have been abound in newspapers and on hoardings all of past week, announcing the schemes. The boost in car sales has continued from over Rakshabandhan to Janmashtami and, in fact, the scenario has been robust throughout this auspicious month of Shravan.
“Usually, Rakshabandhan sales are higher but due to slowdown, the number of deliveries wasn’t all that encouraging. Hence the dealers and companies have extended these schemes up to Janmashtami,” said an official with a leading car dealer in city. In fact, the dealers are giving in negotiations and demands of the customer, said a dealer who dabbles in three car brands. “The inventory with dealers is piling up and as a result, we have to offer discounts to reduce the inventory,” he said.
But the Amdavadi isn’t complaining. He can avail of Rs51,000 benefits on a mid-segment car of Tata Motors, or he can simply hop into another dealer of the same brand to get a 1gm gold coin, and a healthy Rs15,000 to Rs1 lakh on a car of his choice.
The market leaders, meanwhile, are closing in on this buyer.
Maruti Suzuki has announced an exchange scheme offering Rs35,000 as exchange bonus on a used car. Hyundai has also played its cards – giving benefits worth Rs28,000 to Rs1.45 lakh on its various models.
Fiat, makers of the most popular diesel mills in the country, is sending the buyer on a holiday three-night tour package only after he/she has brought their car, of course.
Discounts of Rs85,000 to Rs1 lakh too can be availed of. A gold coin can also be had at another dealer’s.
Toyota, Ford, GM, Renault, Volkswagen and others have also upped the ante to usurp clients.
