City to get light rains today, South Gujarat to get downpur

After giving some anxious moments to the farmers in the state, the return of rain fury in Gujarat ensured that 138 talukas received good rains in the last 24 hours. Gandhidham alone received more than 3.5 inches of rainfall and so did Anjar.

It should be noted that both areas are in Kutch which receives scanty rainfall. Across the state, one taluka received over 6 inches of rainfall while two recorded more than 5 inches of rainfall. Rajkot, Jamnagar and several other regions of Saurashtra also received good rains post Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad continued to have another dry run after Friday's downpour. The met department has however predicted light rainfall for the city on Sunday. Light to moderate thundershowers have also been predicted in South Gujarat and some parts of Saurashtra. Skynet, a private weather forecasting agency has also predicted for Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Gandhinagar among others in the next 12 to 18 hours. At 515 mm of rainfall, the state has so far received 62% of its total average rainfall of the year. Since the monsoon began, 53 talukas have received rains from 500mm to 1000mm while five talukas have received less than 50mm of rainfall so far. In the month of August, the state has so far on an average received only 65 mm of rainfall.
