Case against unknown person for 5-year-old's death due to manja

The Surat Police have registered a case against an unknown kite flier in connection with the death of the five-year-old girl whose throat was slit by manja (a kite's thread). The girl's father has also been booked for rash driving.

The incident had occurred on December 31 when Fatema, 5, fell prey to the killer manja. Fatema, along with her father Yunus Karodiya and other family members had come to Surat city for shopping. They were returning when Fatema opened the car's sunroof and stood on the seat. As the car was driving on a flyover, a kite thread slashed Fatema's throat, causing grievous injuries to her.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she breathed her last on Friday night. Her death was caused due to excess flow of blood because of the deep wound.

On Tuesday, Surat police registered a case against the unknown person who was flying the kite that caused Fatema's death. A case was also registered against Yunus Karodiya for negligent driving.
