Case against two cops for beating 34-year-old man in Ahmedabad

A complaint was lodged with the Kagadapith Police Station after a 34-year-old man was tied to a tree and beaten up near the police station by two officers. The complainant, Umesh Solanki, alleged that the cops demanded Rs 70,000 from him in-order to bail him out against charges of gambling.

The complainant is a resident of Kagadapith area. The incident took place late evening on December 4.

Solanki alleged that while he was standing outside his house, two cops came to him and took him to the back side of the police station. The cops told him that a case of gambling has been lodged against him and in-order to get rid of the charges, he should give Rs 70,000. When Solanki refused, the two tied him to a nearby tree and started beating him up.

When the incident came into Solanki's family's notice, they staged a protest outside the Kagadapith police station demanding action against the cops. The matter was brought to Ahmedabad police commissioner A.K Singh's notice. Singh handed over the case to an ACP-level officer for investigation.

One of the police constable identified as Prakash Rathod was suspended, while the second's cops name is yet to be revealed.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Solanki was wanted a criminal in a gambling case which was registered with the Kagadapith police. In order to catch the accused, when two policemen went to his house, they were threatened with a sword by Solanki and his family members had also abused them.
