There's big news for Ahmedabad's book lovers! The seventh edition of the Ahmedabad Book Fair organised by the civic body will be held in winter from this year instead of May. It is likely to be held in November during the World Heritage Week.

"We have changed the dates of annual book fair. Instead of May, it is going to be held in November," said Mayor Gautam Shah. The civic body is planning to host the annual book fair from November 19 to November 25.

Winter is the time when major book fairs take place across India. However, Ahmedabad was one of the few cities which used to have its book fair during summer months. "Such fairs across country are being held during winter season and keeping that in mind civic body, too, has changed the dates. Also, during summer season, very few people attend it. Combination of World heritage week celebrations and annual book fair will be a double bonanza for Amdavadis," said a senior official.

Publishers were making frantic calls to the civic officials as there was no announcement about the dates. "I had called many a times, civic officials to know the announcement of book fair. We have to book the stalls in advance, but the officials are also clueless regarding the same," said Suhel Patel, Islamic Books.

Moreover, qrganising the book fair during summer months has been a costly affair for the AMC as well as the exhibitors.

"The change in the dates may bring down the prices of the stall. Due to the air-conditioning during summer, it was not so cost-effective for us and also for the organisers," Patel added. "Also, we can expect large number of people during winter. During the first week of May, many colleges and schools have exams, so many people could not take part in it."

According to sources, Ahmedabad Book Fair 2018 will be held at the riverfront which is also the venue for several World Heritage Week events.
