Get ready to pay more tax on your property. If you have a 150-square metre three-BHK flat and you were paying a tax of Rs 3855, the new Budget has to tax your pocket. Now, after the Union Budget, you have to shell out Rs Rs 4212. The hike, however, will be only for properties that have come up after 2008. The property tax for the remaining property will remain unchanged.

Standing Committee chairman Pravin Patel said 50% rebate on the Jantri rate (one of the factors for calculating property tax) was withdrawn by the Municipal Commissioner. “But, the standing committee has decided to go in for partial withdrawal and hence the 25% rebate on the Jantri rate will continue,” said Patel.

Sources in AMC said the civic body has announced a 50% rebate for the building that was included under AMC-limits in 2008. These were mainly in the new west zone and eastern part of the city. The commissioner had proposed to withdraw rebate. The standing committee has also decided to go for a partial withdrawal, resulting in an increase ranging from Rs 200 to 600.
