Ahmedabad: Weather ensures windy Uttarayan

Kite enthusiasts were in for a treat as strong winds prevailed throughout the two days of Uttarayan celebration

The weather Gods smiled on the city and ensured that the kites fly high on Uttarayan and the day after. Strong winds ensured that people were up on their terraces early morning to celebrate the festival of kites. The cries of kaipo che and ear splitting music were heard early morning onwards.

It was the densely populated areas of the city including the walled city that saw people come out with enthusiasm to celebrate the festival. Many in the city also used the long weekend to escape the madness as a result of which nearby tourist places saw a good number of visitors from the state.

"The weather was conducive for flying kites which meant we did not have to struggle too much with with kites. When there isn't enough wind, you have to work hard to make your kite fly. The ban on Chinese tukkal and manja was also good," said Jitendra Thaker, a resident of Prahladnagar.

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani and BJP president Amit Shah also joined the revellers in Khadia and Naranpura respectively in flying the kites. The city also recorded 86 thread related injuries during the two days of Uttarayan while across the state it was around 206.
