More than a month after the stabbing spree that injured seven people and killed a 50-year-old teacher, notorious criminal Arun Chauhan was nabbed on Friday.

A member of the Lakda gang, 23-year-old Chauhan was caught near Swastik Crossroads in Ahmedabad. Ramol police have filed a case of attempt to murder against him.

Chauhan told the police that he brutally stabbed seven people near Hatkeshwar, to rejoice the death of terrorist Ajmal Kasab in Pune’s Yerawada jail on November 21, 2012.

Investigations revealed that Chauhan and his accomplices had thrown a party near Kamdhenu ground behind Ramol police station to celebrate Kasab’s death. After consuming IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor), Chauhan went on a stabbing spree. To escape from the police, he immediately fled to his sister’s place in Amritsar.

During investigation by the crime branch, it came to light that on the night of November 25, Chauhan allegedly ordered his teenage friend to drive the bike while he sat on the pillion. The teenage boy drove the bike while Chauhan sat behind him along with two knives, in an attempt to do something sensational in the city.

According to Ramol police, Chauhan belongs to a well-off family from Akola village in Maharashtra. He had moved to Ahmedabad with his wife, after distancing himself from his family.

Interestingly, this killing spree was carried out to instil fear in the minds of other gangs.

Chauhan had already been charged by Amraiwadi police for assault and attempt to murder. The police had also implicated him in a few mobile-snatching incidents.
