Harassed by a loan shark, a hotel owner committed suicide on Monday. Police said that in his statement, Nathulal Mewada (38), a resident of Vejalpur, accused Dharmalal of harassing him for the recovery of a loan given to him. Mewada further wrote that he has returned the money with ten per cent interest to the money lender, yet he was insisting him to pay money a penalty.

Mewada has written in the note that he had approached the police on June 14 to complain about the harassment. Tired of the harassment, he consumed drugs to end his life. A police complaint was filed at Vejalpur on Tuesday against Dharmalal, a resident of Vastrapur by Mewada's consort Sumitra.

Mewada was found vomiting on Monday at Sumitra's residence. When she inquired about his health, Mewada informed that he took drugs to end his life, because he couldn't bear the torture any longer. He was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital immediately for treatment but succumbed on Tuesday morning.

Senior police inspector AI Patel is investigating the matter. Zone seven DCP RJ Pargi said, "We will investigate the matter with regard to police negligence, as the suicide note mentions that police was approached before the deceased committed suicide."
