Vayu may have brought relief from the heat, but unlike other parts of Gujarat, Ahmedabad has hardly received any rain. The weekend however began on a rainy note for the city, as heavy rains lashed in the morning hours and for a brief time in the evening. It also helped bring down the temperature.

The Met department has warned of light rains and thunder showers for Sunday too when the temperature is expected to be around 37 degree Celsius. Thanks to the rain, Ahmedabad recorded a temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius which was 2.9 degrees below normal on Saturday.

The city in all received 6 mm of rainfall upto 4 pm although it caused mild flooding in several parts. Some parts of the city also reported cave-ins mainly at placed where the civic body had carried out pipeline work before the monsoon.

The highest rainfall was received in the west zone that saw 11 mm of rainfall while the lowest rainfall was received in the central zone that recorded a measly 2 mm of rainfall. The AMC in a release said that in all three complaints of cave-ins were reported while water logging was reported from four areas.

It should be noted that before Cyclone Vayu hit the state, the city was reeling under severe heat with almost a week of orange alert. It also saw a red alert for June, a rarity for the month that often sees the onset of monsoon.

Across the state, the highest temperature was recorded in Vadodara that saw the mercury climb to 36.6 degree Celsius.
