Ahmedabad: 'Drunken' man injured, says cops attacked

The police said CCTV camera footages showed that Dharmesh Chavda, who was drunk, had picked up a fight with an auto driver and, in a fit of rage, broke the vehicle's windscreen with his hands thus injuring him.

An altercation between a youth, who was allegedly drunk, and the traffic cops turned into a caste took place after the former accused the latter of attacking him. Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani also tweeted about the incident.

The police said CCTV camera footages showed that Dharmesh Chavda, who was drunk, had picked up a fight with an auto driver and, in a fit of rage, broke the vehicle's windscreen with his hands thus injuring him.

AK Patel, of Shahibaug police inspector, said: "We got a call from traffic cops after Chavda in a drunken stupor picked up a fight with an auto driver in Badiya Limbdi crossroads near Civil Hospital. The footage showed Chavda dragging a traffic cop to the scene to help sort the issue," said Patel. As Chavda refused to calm down and his antics led to a traffic snarl, the traffic cops called Shahibaug police.
