Ahmedabad: 9-year-old girl raped by mom's paramour

The country’s textile capital may soon earn the dubious distinction of becoming the rape capital of the state. For, another girl — this time a nine-year-old — was raped in the Limbayat area of the city on Wednesday.

Not surprisingly, the accused, who has been arrested, happens to be known to her. And, this ghastly incident comes close on the heels of the rape of a five-year-old girl on November 27, exactly a fortnight ago.

According to the police, the victim, a resident of Nigiri in Limbayat, was raped by Jeetu Patil, 23, at home. The accused, said to be the boyfriend of the girl’s mother, pulled her into his lap and allegedly, molested and raped the little girl. Jeetu even threatened her with dire consequences when she started crying.

Strangely, the girl’s mother did not utter a word. Getting no help from the mother, the girl complained to her father. Shocked by the ghastly incident, he immediately lodged a complaint with the police against the two. Police arrested Jeetu late on Wednesday evening and have launched a hunt for the mother, too, who has apparently gone into hiding.

Police added that Jeetu, who is unemployed, used to go over to the girl’s place whenever Ravi, engaged in a local embroidery unit, went out on work.

“In the past, the girl had caught her mother and Jeetu in a compromising position.  Ever since, her mother was  afraid she would spill the beans. To prevent her from revealing anything to her husband, she used to torture her with Jeetu's help,” said assistant sub-inspector Shantaram Dinkar, who is investigating the case.
