Ahmedabad: 16 students rescued after major fire erupts in commercial complex

At least 16 students, who had gone to attend their tuition classes in the Sahjanand Complex located in Jivrajpark area, were evacuated after a major fire broke out in the godown of the complex on Wednesday. All students and teachers were rescued before the fire started spreading. 

Twelve fire tenders, including water tankers, and firefighters were present at the spot. The fire was brought under control after 6 hours. 45 people were rescued with no injuries. 

The fire borke out at 9.40 am inside a Ariyant Enterprise godown located, which stored thermocol sheets. Short circuit identified to be the reason behind the blaze, which spread rapidly due to the thermocol.

The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) was called for help after residents from nearby buildings noticed masisve flames at the base of the complex.

There were around 16 students, along with teachers, on the second floor of the complex, attending tuition classes, when the fire broke out. They sought refuge on the building’s terrace from where they were rescued by connected terraces.
