A bookworm? Head to the Pustak ni Parab today

After launching their ambitious project in August 24,  the Vishwa Matrubhasha Abhiyaan, a state initiative to spread the use of mother-tongue among youngsters, has undertaken two more projects — Gujarati Language Olympiad and Pustak ni Parab. Though both these projects are annual events and the Olympiad, which commenced on September 1, will continue till February 21, 2014, the  Pustak ni Parab will open doors on Wednesday at the Samuday Shikshan Bhavan at 10 am. Eminent Gujarati poet, Ratilal Borisagar will inaugurate the event.

Noted poet Rajendra Patel said: “It will start off simultneously across 13 cities of Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Prantij, Khedbrahma, Mundra, Bhuj, Mandvi, Navsari, Anand, Surat, Ankleshwar among many others. We will start with the ‘books on wheels’ project from 7.30 – 9 am. In this, 100 books will be distributed free across five locations in Ahmedabad to people who want to read and know more about Gujarati language, authors, writers, poets. And then the inauguration will take place at 10am.”

Five places in city where books will be distributed for free include Akhbar Nagar Circle, Vastrapur Lake, Himmatlal Park Garden, Kankaria Lake and Naroda Lake. Poets who have volunteered to stand at these locations to distribute include, Hardwar Goswami, Chandresh Makwana, Manish Pathak ‘Shwet’, Anil Chavda, Tejas Dave, Jayant Dangodara, Rahul Joshi, Bhavin Gopani, Sanket Chavhan and Rajendra Patel.

“Currently, people who have good collection of Gujarati books don’t have the time to read. And there are some others who are hungry for such books, but cannot afford them. Hence, we decided to implement the project,” said Patel.

However, for those who will not be able to make it to any of the five mentioned locations, can visit the Matrubhasha Abhiyaan office at Samuday Shikshan Bhavan, he said.
