44.3°C: Ahmedabad's hottest day of season so far

But, temperature likely to dip over the weekend bringing some relief from scorching heat, says weatherman

Ahmedabad recorded the hottest day of the season so far on Thursday with Mercury level touching 44.3 degree Celsius, an increase of 1.4 degree over yesterday. However, the temperature is likely to dip over the weekend bringing some relief from the scorching heat.

The Indian Meteorological Department said in a release that its Kandla airport station recorded maximum temperature of 45.2 degree Celsius on Thursday, making it the hottest place in the state. Amreli was the next hottest with Mercury at 44.7 degree, followed by Surendranagar at 44.3 degree, and Rajkot at 44 degree. State Capital Gandhinagar recorded maximum temperature of 43 degree during the day.

The maximum temperature of 44.3 degree Celsius in Ahmedabad was 4.2 degree above the normal, IMD said. The minimum temperature was 27.9 degree Celsius, 0.8 degree above normal.

According to Met, maximum temperature in the city on Friday would most likely be 44 degree Celsius.

It said that maximum temperature could fall to 43 degree Celsius on the next two days, and further to 43 degree in the first half of the next week. IMD also said that heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on Friday and Saturday.

"The maximum temperature is very likely to be 40 to 44 degree Celsius over north Gujarat region and in parts of Saurashtra-Kutch and south Gujarat region during next 2-3 days. No large change in maximum temperature is likely over rest parts of the region," it said in its forecast.
