Besides this, 15 roads were repaired in south zone, six roads in west zone, three roads in east zone and one road each in the north and central zones.
On an average, AMC spends Rs250 crore annually on roads, which includes repair and resurfacing. In the past three years, the civic body repaired 42 roads. The highest number of roads __ 17__ were in the new west zone.
Besides this, 15 roads were repaired in south zone, six roads in west zone, three roads in east zone and one road each in the north and central zones.
Roads and buildings committee chairman Jatin Patel shared the information on Wednesday. Patel said it was based on data provided by various zones as well as the road projects department. However, he said the list was still incomplete.
The new west zone was added to civic body limits in 2010 and has newer roads compared to central zone, which comprises the walled city, yet only one road was repaired in this zone in the past three years, according to the AMC.
“Road repairs are the biggest lie of the BJP-run civic body. We are living in a smart city, yet our roads get damaged after the slightest spell of rains,” said Dinesh Sharma, leader of opposition in the AMC.
Sharma alleged city engineers had provided a false list to hide actual data. “As per the data given by engineers, only one road had been repaired in the north zone in the past three years. I live in that area and there are many roads that have been repaired. I have even caught contractors red-handed using poor quality material,” he said.
Security deposit
Municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar has revised the amount of security deposit for contractors to 5% of the total cost of the road and three years’ guarantee. Earlier, it was 12% of the security deposit and five years’ guarantee.
