4 held from UP for duping Surat Range IG's wife of Rs 1.37 lakh

Four people were arrested by the Cyber Crime sleuths on Saturday for allegedly duping a woman of Rs1.37 lakh online. The victim is the wife of Surat Range IG.

Dr Shalini Rajkumar Pandian, the wife of IG Rajkumar Pandian, lost the money after she clicked on a link to lodge a complaint about the poor service of a salon. She was convinced to share her OTP by one Rohan, who promised to not only refund her money but also compensate her Rs10,000.

A release said that the cops arrested Shraddhanand, Vikrant Bhargav, Naman Sharma and Vivek Juyal from Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The call records of the numbers from which the victim received calls led the cops to a call centre in Greater Noida. Investigations revealed that the accused operated from a rented premises as property dealers. First, they would collect the phone numbers and email ids of those who lodged complaints on www.consumercomplaints.in. Later, they would approach them and offer refunds. They used to dupe them by collecting details about their bank accounts.
