In this era of stiff competition it is very essential to get proper placement in the college campus itself.  To facilitate the same for its students, Vidyalankar School of Information Technology is organizing a Career Fair in the month of February 2011 for final year BSc IT and BMS students.

A career fair is an exposition for employers, recruiters and colleges to meet and interact with prospective job seekers. Expos usually include company tables or booths where résumés can be collected and business cards can be exchanged. For the corporate recruiter, they offer an opportunity to interview the highest possible number of prospects in the shortest possible amount of time.

Career fairs have a set of rules and protocols all their own. But if you understand their dynamics, it can be a great opportunity to secure a job. Use the fair to make business contacts, find out information about companies and even to get spontaneous interviews for jobs. In VSIT probable companies that are about to participate in the fair are Wipro, BPO, Godrej and Boyce and HDFC Securities to mention a few.

In the first phase of pre-placement preparation, the college has collected data and formed the database as per the recruitment eligibility criteria specified by companies. In the next stage, prospective companies have been identified and invited. Online mock Aptitude tests, Group Discussions and Personal Interviews have been conducted to ensure student preparedness. You will need to prepare intelligently and do keep the following tips in mind before you visit the fair:

Develop a professional resume and make 2 to 3 copies. Keep your resumes in a classy folder. Ensure that there are no spelling and grammatical errors. Be prepared with a list of references to give to potential employers as well.

Dress professionally - wear a suit in a conservative color such as gray, black or navy blue. Ensure your hair and nails are neat and well-groomed. Choose comfortable shoes, as you will likely be on your feet for hours.

Introduce yourself to recruiters with a smile. Give them a copy of your resume and tell them why you are interested in their company. Approach and interact with as many recruiters as possible.

Prepare a brief about the recruiting company by going through their website. This demonstrates interest and can set you apart from the crowd.

Remember to conduct yourself professionally in a crowded environment-you never know when a company representative is watching or listening.

Avoid asking questions about salary, and other benefits.

Follow up with prospective recruiters- write thank you notes immediately after the fair and express your continuing interest in the company. Send a resume and cover letter to the companies that interest you.
