Every year a substantial number of students head to the US to pursue their academic dreams.

With the changing economies, still reeling under the aftermath of a slowdown, spending has taken a massive hit leading to constraint in family budgets. However, there is no compromise when it comes to quality education, and most parents want the best for their children. Global Pathways Institute (GPI) has been set up in Mumbai precisely to capitalise on this want and provide affordable international education on home soil. It is the result of collaboration between Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State, US (Federal State) along with educationist, Sujay Jairaj, Trustee of Narsee Monjee Educational Trust. It is a Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) accredited institution that offers four year undergraduate courses which allows students to study first two years in India, and the remaining two at Arcadia or any of the other affiliated institutions in the United States (see box). "Education is the blood of the economy. Through this alliance we are tapping students with global competency to have quality education on their home ground," says Wilfred Muskins, deputy secretary for International Business Development, Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED). He further adds that GPI is not looking to take away students from their home country, but training them in an environment they feel safe and at home.

Students will have to go through similar admission procedure that is followed by Arcadia for its international students. In order to qualify to study the remaining two years on the American campus students need to have appropriate grades in the previous two years of the programme. At the end of first two years students will get a transcript from Arcadia that will help them qualify to any of the partner universities. "Since the curriculum is similar to the one we offer at our University, local faculty, scholars and researchers will be trained to teach according to our standards," informs Barbara Nodine, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Arcadia University.

An important aspect of the curriculum that kick-starts at GPI in 2015, is the concept of giving back to the community. With Arcadia's 80 centres spread across the world, students will get an opportunity to participate in community work during the duration of the course. Following the common arrangements of an academic alliance, faculty and student exchange and scholarships will be offered at the India campus.

Partner Universities:
