IT programme for women

NIIT Limited and Microsoft India have launched the 'Women in Tech' initiative to provide, attract and retain talented women in the Information Technology (IT) industry. A nationwide network will be used to train and certify women and girl students in latest technologies through different courses which will enable them to find suitable careers in the IT field. The initiative will target girl students in schools, women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) colleges as well an in the professional world.

Handwriting competition
Kokuyo Camlin and Write Right organization will conduct the Camlin Cartridge Fountain Pen Handwriting Olympiad. The contest is open to students from class II to class XII and will reach out to around 22,000 schools across 22 states in the country. The students will be divided into three groups depending on their age and will compete at the school and state level before qualifying for the finals which will be held next year. Each student's handwriting will be evaluated on the basis on level of study and choice of writing instrument (pen or pencil). For more details: www.handwritingolympiad.com

Management competition
Team 'Sounds Cool' from Xavier Institute of Labour Relations, Jamshedpur secured first place among in the Deloitte Campus Maverick programme held in Hyderabad. They winning team was awarded prize money of Rs3,00,000 while the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad who were declared runners up won Rs1,50,000. The eight week long Maverick programme in which 13,500 management students participated, required teams to design, propose and defend innovative solutions to current day business issues, across multiple industry sectors.

Sustainable development conference
Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Kurla and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Bombay, are organizing an International Conference on Technology for Sustainable Development in the first week of February. The aim of the conference is to draw attention to the various sustainable development practices that are adopted in various sectors including energy, design, water, agriculture, waste management, transportation, habitat, community life etc. Participants must register by October 15. Bakery course
Assocom Institute of Bakery Technology and Management have started an eight week Entrepreneurship Development Program in Artisan Bakery and Patisserie which aims to encourage and enable students to consider entrepreneurship as a career choice. It looks to familiarize a student with the different aspects of starting a bakery business includes 35 intensive practise sessions in well equipped workshops, hands-on training on over 50 bakery products and different principles related to quality evaluation, food hygiene and food laws. Business certificate programme
Stanford Graduate School of Business will conduct Stanford Ignite, an 11 week certificate programme for innovators and entrepreneurial thinkers. The programme is targeted towards technical professionals, innovators, and entrepreneurs with no previous graduate management education as well as non business graduate students like doctoral scholars, engineers and scientists. As part of the programme, classroom sessions will be conducted every weekend at Infosys by faculty members of the Stanford Business School.

Business competition
Henkel has opened registrations for their eight Innovation Challenge. Students across the world from all disciplines can participate in this completion and are expected to submit ideas for sustainable products and technologies. A team of two students must indentify market trends and challenges in the Adhesive Technologies, Beauty Care or Laundry and Home Care sector.
