Harvard dean Nitin Nohria to guide Mumbai Univ students

Indian-American Nohria became the tenth dean of Harvard Business School on July 1, 2010. He is the first foreign-born dean of the prestigious B-school. Two years ago, he had surprised everyone by acknowledging sexism in the campus and saying apologising.

Acclaimed academician and Harvard Business School Dean Nitin Nohria will be in Mumbai to guide the students of Mumbai University on leadership.

Dr Nohria will be speaking on “Developing leaders: Knowing, doing and being,” as a part of The Leaders Speak series of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), says a representative of the institute. Nohria’s speech is the first in this series which will be held on December 21, 2016, 5:45 pm at the Convocation Hall, University of Mumbai Campus, Fort, Mumbai.

“Women at Harvard were first admitted to the business school in 1963 but they could feel disrespected, left out, and unloved by the school. I’m sorry on behalf of the business school,” he said while speaking to an audience of 600 alumni and guests at a San Francisco event that were widely noted in the academic and business media.  

“The school owed you better, and I promise it will be better.” He said he would “work to make school more open and encouraging to women.”
