Students can heave a sigh of relief as the second cut-off list released by the Delhi University on Sunday shows a dip, thus opening up several coveted courses for admissions. However, for most of the courses like Commerce, English and Chemistry, the dip is marginal in many colleges. The cut-off has gone down substantially in Science and Arts courses at off-campus colleges.

After announcing the cut-off of 100% for Computer Science course for non-science students, Ram Lal Anand College has kept the admissions open for the course at the same cut-off of 95% for Science students. However, the college has not mentioned the cut-off for non-science students in the second list. “We are left with few seats, but there are apprehensions that many students may cancel their admission. So, the college has decided to keep the admissions open with that percentage,” said Vijay K Kumar, principal of RLA College.

B.Tech Computer Science, one of the most demanded courses this year, has been closed for admissions in 11 colleges. In total, 22 colleges were offering the course. It is still open in Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Hans Raj and Miranda House.

Sri Ram College of Commerce has closed admissions for B.Com, but Economics is still open with a dip of a 0.25%. Hindu College has kept admissions open for both Commerce and Economics. However, the dip in cut-off is only by 0.25% and 0.5% respectively. Commerce, another sought-after course in DU, has been closed for admissions at colleges like Deen Dayal, IP College, Kamla Nehru and Gargi. But students can still seek admissions to Commerce course at Hans Raj College, LSR and Kirori Mal.

The cut-offs for Science courses have seen a substantial dip. At Sri Aurobindo College, Botany has seen a dip of 20% in the second list. It has come down to 70% from 90%. Though over nine colleges have closed admissions for English, there is good news for students hoping to pursue the subject. The cut-offs for English has seen good decrease in the second list. Miranda House has relaxed the cut-off by 2 per cent; both LSR and Hindu have lowered the cut-offs by 3 per cent.  The highest drop of 6% is at the Hans Raj College.
