Pakistan is looking forward to a "sustained and result-oriented engagement with India on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect," he said.

He apprised Moussa of Pakistan's "relentless pursuit of peace and prosperity in South Asia," said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Qureshi also briefed Moussa about internal developments in Pakistan and said the democratic government had inherited multiple challenges.

"With the support of the people of Pakistan, the government had achieved many successes on different fronts, including achieving a national consensus against terrorism," he said.

"Pakistan had suffered enormously by this pernicious evil. Nevertheless, eliminating terrorism was the only option," he added.

The government and people of Pakistan were resolved to defeat this menace with the support of the international community.

Qureshi also briefed Moussa about Pakistan's efforts to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan and reiterated Islamabad's full support to an Afghanistan-led reconciliation process.

Moussa briefed Qureshi about ongoing talks between Palestinians and Israel and the situation in Sudan.
