Japan nuke evacuation perimeter appropriate: Yukio Edano

The current evacuation perimeter around the earthquake-ravaged Fukushima nuclear-power plant in northern Japan is appropriate, chief cabinet secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference.

He said engineers were making utmost efforts to restore power to the plant but could not give a time frame for when it would be reconnected, a crucial step that would enable pumps to be restarted to try to cool nuclear reactors.
