President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton found time aboard Air Force One to recollect about their long relationship and unlikely alliance, as they took their final trip abroad together amid the Middle East crisis.

During their flight from Burma to Cambodia ‘they spent basically the entire flight alone in his personal office on Air Force One just reminiscing about the last four years’ Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes told reporters.

He added that “they have been through alot together over the last five or six years,” since their bitter battle for the Democratic nomination.

“And I think what the President expresses and what he believes is not only has she done a great job as Secretary of State, but they've really come to become not just partners, but close friends,” Rhodes said.

“And that’s a friendship that he values very much and that he will want to continue going forward,” he added.

According to the New York Daily News, the adviser added that Obama had been ‘intent’ on bringing Clinton down the front steps of Air Force One when he became the first sitting US president to touch down in that country.

But Rhodes said there has been no discussion of asking Clinton to stay in her State Department post longer, despite the latest flare-up of violence between Israel and Hamas, the report added.
