Having decided to avenge the May 2, 2011 killing of Osama bin Laden in a big way, al-Qaeda’s recently-appointed acting chief Saif al-Adal has constituted a three-member special operations council to spearhead some major terrorist attacks in different parts of the world, especially in Pakistan by targeting the country’s political and military leadership, including the president and the army chief.

According to the information the US shared with Pakistani authorities, the special operations council is led by Saif Al-Adal himself while the remaining two members are Mohammad Ilyas Kashmiri, a Pakistani jehadi commander wanted by the Pakistani and the American agencies and Adnan Gulshair el Shukrijumah, a former legal resident of the United States, who is wanted by the FBI.

Those in the Pakistani security and intelligence establishment who are trying to hunt down the remaining al-Qaeda and Taliban fugitives believe the elevation of Saif Al-Adal — Osama bin Laden’s most experienced and equally lethal terrorist operations mastermind — and several others clearly indicated that avenging the killing of the al-Qaeda founder at the hands of the Americans in Pakistan was the top most priority of his followers.

During the May 10 Shura Council meeting of the al-Qaeda, which was held at the Pak-Afghan border, several other militant fugitives were reportedly given coveted slots in the terror outfit.

Mohammed Adam Khan Al-Afghani was appointed the operational chief of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Waziristan while Abdul Shakoor Turkistani, the chief of the Turkistan Islamic Party, was made the chief of group’s operations in Pakistan. Afghani and Turkistani will be working in tandem with Fahd al-Iraqi who currently operates from the Pak-Afghan border.

Adnan al-Khairi al-Masry has been appointed chief of al-Qaeda’s General Command while Mohammad Nasser al-Washi Abu Nasir will be the operational commander of the outfit in Africa, assisted by Muhammad Mustafa Yemeni. Adnan al-Kashri was chosen as in-charge of the general information affairs of al-Qaeda while Fahad al-Qava was appointed the urgent operational commander of the group.
