Google on Thursday launched its first ever VR (Virtual Reality) Doodle paying ultimate tribute to French illusionist and film director Georges Melies.

The 360 degree animated and interactive Doodle remembers Melies for his revolutionary work in the film making. 

The VR doodle titled as 'Back to the Moon' is a 2-minute animated film based on the Melies groundbreaking art work. The doodle uses techniques and effects that Melies used in his many works. 

Melies was one of the first filmmakers to bring the concept of storyboarding.

Melies was a profilic filmmaker who innovated the concept of using special effects and its techniques such as time-lapse photography, multiple exposures, etc.

The Google Doodle, Google Spotlight Stories, Google Arts & Culture, & Cinematheque Francaise teams collaborated to create the first ever VR doodle.
