Man Haron Monis, 50, is the gun man identified by Sydney police responsible for holding a cafe to hostage for more than 16 hours. Finally police managed to storm the cafe, but there is still no clarity regarding the condition of Man Haron Monis or the people whom he kept as hostage.

According to media reports, Haron hailing originally from Iran has a chequered past and is a history sheeter. A self described cleric, he has been charged with murder charge and several sexual assault cases in the past.

1) Between 2007 and 2009, he sent out  hurtful letters to the families of Australian martyrs. He was convicted for this act, and it is believed that Monday's attack on Cafe Lindt is a result of an unsuccessful trial to have these charges proven wrong.

2) In November 2013, he was charged for being an accessory to the murder of his ex wife, Noleen Hayson Pal. His present girlfriend has been charged with murder of Noleen Pal. His ex wife was stabbed and set alight in her apartment.

3) Monis also goes by the names of Sheikh Haron and Mohammad Hassan Manteghi. He was born in Iran and has been living in Sydney. Monis was a self-proclaimed "spiritual healer" who reportedly operated out of premises on Station Street at Wentworthville. He claimed to be an expert in black magic, numerology and astrology.

4) In April 2014, Monis was charged with sexual assault charges of a woman in Sydney for an incident which happened way back in 2002. After this revealation, more victims came forward and filed sexual charges against Monis. The number of charges of sexual assault against Monis add up to 50.

5) He has his own website www.sheikhharon.com (that has been suspended currently) where he claims that the Australian Government carries out a witch hunt against him to stop his activities, but he wont budge to the oppression. The website also carried a statement "I used to be a Rafidi, but not any more. Now I am a Muslim, Alhamdu Lillah". In his own website, he compared himself to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and said that he is also a victim of political conspiracy.

Investigative authorities will try to ascertain if he was acting on his own or was part of any terrorist organisation. But he was in radar of Sydney police though few could probably imagine that Man Haron Monis would pull of such a brazen act of terrorism.
