Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said that he may be the last one to hold the title instead of allowing someone incapable to take his place.

He said that it would better if the tradition stopped at the "time of a popular Dalai Lama", reported the BBC. He also said that it was up to the people of Tibet whether they would want the next Dalai Lama after he passes away.

The Dalai Lama also said that the global community needs to make an added effort to encourage democracy in China and suggested that the UK had taken a soft line with China over Honk Kong's recent student protests for financial reasons.

He asserted that China wants to be a part of the "mainstream world economy".
