A North Korean ballistic missile accidentally landed in one of their cities in April last year, according to report published in The Diplomat. The report states that on April 28, 2017 Kim Jong Un's regime launched a single Hwasong-12/KN17 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM). It was launched from Pukchang Airfield in South Pyongan Province. However according to the report, it crashed in the city of Tokchon, a city of population of around 2 lakh people and lead to damage to buildings situated there.

The report quoting US government sources say that the missile failed within a minute of its flight. The Diplomat says that North Korea has the strategy of often using new sites for missile testing. And there has been times they have done it from heavily populated regions. So such a failure has the chance of catastrophic disaster in the future.

On April 28, it was third test of Hwasong-12. All the three ended up as failure. The first success happened in May, 2017.  The Hwasong-12 is a liquid fuel missile  which uses combination of  hypergolic propellant and oxidizer. Apart from Hwasong-12, North Korea also developed intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-14 and the Hwasong-15 last year.  In his New Year's Day message, Kim Jong Un said that the nuclear button is always in his reach. Reacting to that US President Donald said that, "US nuclear button is bigger and more powerful one than his".
