'Stranger Things' star Millie Bobby Brown quits Twitter after becoming homophobic meme

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is the latest star to quit social media platform after being harassed by online trolls.

Just a week ago, Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Kelly Marie Tran was bullied off Instagram by the trolls who did not like her role in the second instalment of the rebooted franchise. This time, the 14-year-old teen star was chased off Twitter when a barrage of homophobic memes was posted with her images on. The meme-generators took Brown's selfies and added homophobic statements and slurs.

According to a report in Variety, it is unclear what prompted this sudden outburst but several Twitter users are claiming that the origin lies in an inside joke among LGBT tweeters.

This is where irony dies.

Millie Bobby Brown is a public supporter of GLAAD's (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Together movement. She has voiced her political opinions, showed support for Parkland shooting survivors.

Brown’s secondary, anti-bullying Twitter account, @Milliestopshate is still active.

Apart from Brown and Tran, comedian Leslie Jones, Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley had to quit social media platforms because of online bullying. While Jones came back after the racist memes incident and her tweeting landed her special gigs of covering Rio Olympics 2016 and Winter Olympics 2018, Ridley is enjoying time away from the reach.

On the professional front, Brown will be seen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters followed by the third season of Stranger Things.
