Facebook has quietly removed one of its oldest feature – the Ticker box which appeared on the right side of your Newsfeed, constantly updating about your friend’s activity such as recent likes and comments.

TechCrunch reported that it isn’t clear as to why Facebook decided to axe the Ticker. “We have contacted the company to see if it can explain more.”

Since last week, people have reported that the Ticker box was not visible to them. Additionally, a user mentioned the same issue to Facebook’s Help Community. A member from the Facebook team replied, “This feature is no longer available.”

Ticker was first launched in 2011, to coincide with Facebook introducing an algorithmic News Feed. The main aim of this feature was to offer users a time-based summary of all the activities carried out by their friends.

Generally, Facebook is known to killing off features that are either not being used, or are not progressing in the way it had anticipated, or to bring more focus on other features, adds the report.

According to a previous report, Facebook will soon allow users to send variety of ‘greetings’ to friends. You will now be able to send a wink, a high-five, a hug and a wave as well apart from the faithful ‘poke’ option. The feature appears to be rolling out to some users in Britain, Thailand, Australia, Canada, Columbia and France.

This feature is an attempt to revive the "poke", which is barely used these days. Under the 'Hello' button on their profile, you can try out the new option by just holding the button and they will appear. On the desktop, users can hover over the "Hello" button will pop up the options. The new greetings will also have an "undo" button, in case you send the greeting by accident.
