Wizards draw first pick in NBA draft, Sixers second, Nets third

Washington, 26-56 in the regular season, cashed in on their 10.3 percent chance among the 14 clubs eligible for the weighted lottery for clubs that failed to make the playoffs.

The Washington Wizards drew the first pick in next month''s NBA Draft, winning Tuesday's lottery despite having only the fifth best chance at securing the top choice.

Washington, 26-56 in the regular season, cashed in on their 10.3 percent chance among the 14 clubs eligible for the weighted lottery for clubs that failed to make the playoffs.

Second pick in the draft went to the Philadelphia 76ers (27-55), who had only a 5.3 percent shot at the top pick -- the sixth best odds. 

The New Jersey Nets, who had the NBA's worst record of 12-70 and the best chance to win the top pick at 25 percent in the lottery, drew the third choice in the June 24 draft which is the primary way that teams add talent.
