Indian motorsport has been on an upward trend for the last couple of years and the confirmation of the Indian GP on October 30, 2011, is truly a historic moment for the sport and I am extremely excited to be a part of it.

There has been talk about the Indian GP for a couple of years now and it is great to see that it will become a reality next year. As a consultant to the Jaypee Group for this project, I’ve visited the site a number of times since January and have definitely seen progress at the site every time I have visited it. One thing is clear — the organisers are very serious and they have worked really hard to make the race next year a reality so all credit to them.

I know that the team and drivers are really excited about the Indian race as a venue, as we are a country of unlimited potential. Almost all commercial partners involved with Formula One see India as a key market and this is a great way to bring them into our country. Bernie Eccelstone has been working tirelessly to make this happen so we must thank him as well for making this happen.

To be the first Indian driver on the grid at the Indian GP will be a huge thing to have on my CV and we’re all working hard to secure the best option for 2011. What I am really excited about is the fact that many Indians will get to see the race live. When I first heard an F1 car engine live it sent shivers down my spine and I am sure all our Indian fans will feel the same way too. Hopefully we can attract a whole new set of fans to see the race live and make it a big success.
