Wada hopes to resolve dispute

World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) chief John Fahey is confident of resolving its differences with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the contentious “whereabouts” clause.

Speaking to DNA from Montreal, Fahey said Wada is hopeful of settling things with the Indian cricket board when they meet the CEOs of the International Cricket Council member nations in South Africa.

He said since the ICC has approved the code, being a member, BCCI should also have no problems. “The ICC are compliant with the Wada code. They have adopted it and India is a member of the ICC. I am aware that this is a matter of discussion that will take place at the meeting of CEOs in South Africa in the earlier part of October. This issue will be on agenda,” he said.

The Wada chief said the code has been accepted by other disciplines.

“We make no exception for any sport — be it football or cricket. I say again and I understand that there are some problems involving the BCCI. We have taken that up with the Indian government and have sought an official view of the Indian government on the matter and in that regard, we will release their views as soon as we get it,” he added.
