World No.1 golfer Tiger Woods wants Ryder Cup revenge on Rory McIlroy after he termed the former as America's weakest link.

McIlroy had claimed any European player would fancy their chances against the struggling world No.1 in Wales, The Mirror reports.

Woods went up to McIlroy in the locker room at the BMW Championship in Chicago earlier this month and snarled: "You had better be careful what you wish for young man - it might just come true."

Asked on Tuesday about McIlroy's desire to face him at Celtic Manor this week, Woods replied: "Me too."

McIlroy, 22, cast doubt over Woods' game, saying: "I would love to face him. Unless his game improves rapidly, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him."

He tried to backtrack yesterday, and added: "I said those things the week after he'd just shot 18 over at Akron, so he wasn't playing too well!"
