:Tiger Woods took a swipe at Greg Norman, saying he had relished playing a pivotal role in the US team's President Cup win and at the same time proving the International captain wrong.

Before the tournament, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Norman had questioned the US team using a captain's pick on Woods.

Yet it was the former world No. 1 who finally repelled the International team's valiant rally at Royal Melbourne.

"Greg's probably not happy with it ... me closing out the Cup," said Woods as his 11 teammates buzzed around him.

He was the 11th singles match of 12 to tee off on the final day, and gave the Americans an unassailable lead with his 4-and-3 win over Aussie Aaron Baddeley, one of Norman's two discretionary captain's picks.

Norman's Presidents Cup quest fell short just as it did in 2009 but he left the door open to challenge again in the leadership role at Muirfield Village in Ohio in 2013.

THE once-familiar scent of victory is back in the nostrils of Tiger Woods, who hoisted a trophy for the first time in two years.

Woods said: "It felt good and all of a sudden I got into my natural kind of body position and I wasn't dragging the blade any more ... just right on the line the toe was moving and it felt great."
