With the Commonwealth Games in the eye of a storm, some fashion designers who were to present their collections at the international sports event are thinking of backing out of it.

Says veteran designer Ritu Kumar, “I was going to showcase royal costumes from all parts of India at the Commonwealth Games artist’s exhibition. I backed out of the Games after the trembling state it has landed in and change of venues.”

Designer Rohit Bal, too, is  unsure of his Saree Project taking off during the Games. “The project isn’t specifically designed for the Games, but it would have been a good time to start it with. But the circumstance around it is rather unfortunate. We are yet to take a decision on our next step,” he says.

Not everyone is off CWG though. Designer duo Ashima-Leena are quite happy and thrilled to drape the performers during the opening and closing ceremonies.

“We are proud to be a part of CWG. It’s time to lend support to our nation rather than to criticise it,” says Leena. Designer Madhu Jain is also set to showcase her latest project, M. “It will be showcased at the opening event called Fabric of India segment. It is a 10-floor textile installation which has been made by 300 weavers, 500 craftsmen and 200 embroiderers.”
