Former Pakistan skipper Rameez Raja has backed the inclusion of young batsmen Azhar Ali and Uman Amin in the national squad.

Both Ali and Amin made their debut against in first test against Australia at Lord’s but failed to make a mark, however,  Rameez believes that they have the potential to play for Pakistan for a long period.

He said the team management must give the two more chances in future.

“When I came to know that two new faces are being included in the Pakistan team, I thought it would be yet another ordinary stuff. However, during the course of the match, I found them extremely talented and worth giving more chances in future,” The News quoted Rameez, as saying.

“I think they should be given extended run at the Test. If they succeed in playing in all six Test matches in England, I do not think Pakistan batting would have any one else to look for in future,” he added.

Talking about the specialities of both the players, he said that while Ali has got a temperament best suited for Test cricket, Amin is a technically sound batsman.

“Amin is a good, aggressive and technically-sound player. The level of confidence he has at this age ushers a good future for him. It is not easy at all to make your debut at Lord’s. I really appreciate him the way he batted in the second innings. He has all the qualities of becoming a genuine international future,” Rameez said.

The former middle-order batsman also lashed at Shahid Afridi for his abrupt retirements from Test cricket, and said his ‘childish’ act would have a negative effect on youngsters.

“I think his act is unpardonable. Afridi has harmed Pakistan cricket and he should be penalised for that. There are several better ways if you want to announce your retirement from Test. Afridi’s chose the worst way. It will leave bad affects on Pakistani youngsters,” said Rameez.
