Even as Olympian Rehan Poncha dashed to the touch pads at the LNCPE pool sinking his own national record of in 200m butterfly event, there were very few cheers that came his way as the venue is 12 kms away from the city.
With stiff challenge by Muralidharan Brothers, Poncha clocked two minutes 01:28 seconds to win the race. Quick off the blocks, Poncha gave little chance for his competitors to catch up and took a lead of over a second in the first 50m of the race.
The seasoned Bangalorean increased the tempo to romp home ahead of Arjun Muralidharan (2:03:37) of Police who finished second while his brother Amar (2:09:95) stood third.
Four other marks were eclipsed on Day Two. Olympian Sandeep Sejwal created a new mark in 50m breaststroke, timing 0:29: 37 seconds. The Delhiite escaped a close shave from Arjun JP of RSPB who finished just 0:0:29 seconds behind him.
