South African police have said that no criminal case has been opened over the alleged burglary in the hotel rooms of two Spanish World Cup players in Durban.

“I have checked with the police and the hotel and found nothing. No case has been opened,” Sport24 quoted Brigadier Phindile Radebe, as saying.

According to reports, the rooms of Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets and forward Pedro Rodriguez were broken into ahead of their team’s World Cup semi-final win over Germany at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.

Busquets lost documents and about 800 euros, while Pedro lost about 1,000 euros from his safe.

Three Greek players also had money stolen from their hotel rooms just outside Durban earlier in the tournament.
