Nayak-Patil efforts in vain

Sujit Nayak’s magnificent 106 and Nikhil Patil’s crucial 90 went astray as Dilip Vengsarkar XI conceded the first innings lead and eventually had to be content with the runners-up spot against Baroda Cricket Association in the Madhav Mantri U-22 cricket tournament that concluded at the MCA’s BKC facility on Monday.

Chasing a target of 386, the hosts succumbed to some disciplined bowling from Sagar Manglorkar (4-42) and Bhargav Bhatt (3-66). Earlier put into bat, Baroda’s Swapnil Singh struck a solid 130 to guide his team to a strong total of 385 in 120.1 overs in the three day tie.
