Mumbai, Baroda emerge victorious in T20 west zone league

In a keenly contested match, Mumbai defeated Maharashtra by 15 runs while Baroda toppled Saurashtra by 4 wickets with one over to spare in the Twenty20 West Zone League Cricket Tournament at the Reliance Ground in Vadodara today.

After winning the toss, Maharashtra opted to field and drove Mumbai in a great difficulty by plucking three important wickets of Wasim Jaffer, Jinky Rahane and Abhishek Nayar at a total score of 7 runs in 4 overs.

Maharashtra's Samad Fallah claimed 2 of the 3 wickets.

Opener Valthaty and Aditya together added valuable 63 runs for the 4th wicket till an accurate throw by D Waghmare showed Valthaty way of pavilion at an individual score of 37 runs.

Ankit Chavan who came at the fall of Valathaty, hit 44 runs.

The 6th wicket remained unbeaten with a partnership of 24 runs between Chavan (44 not out) and Siddharth Chitins  (11 not out) helped Mumbai taking its total to 147 runs at loss of 5 wickets in allotted 20 overs.

Though Kedar Jadhav (47), Nikhil Paradkar (15) and Rohit Motwani (15) of Maharashtra slogged for maximum runs, other batsmen miserably failed to successfully face Ajit Agarkar (3 wickets for 19 runs) and Rohit Raje (3, 26) Javed Khan (2,28).

Maharashtra team got all out at a score of 132 runs in 19.3 overs.  Mumbai got 4 points.

Saurashtra won the toss and decided to bat first but could not make an impressive total. It could secure 113 runs losing 6 wickets.

Cheteshwar Pujara's knock of 37 runs and his fourth wicket 44 runs partnership with Sheldan Jekson (19) enabled his team to put up some respectable total .

The unbeaten 37 runs at 7th wicket partnership between Rakesh Dhruv (33 not out) and Kamlesh Makwan (5 not out)helped Saurashtra surpass 100 runs and take it to 113 runs in stipulated 20 overs.

The wrecker in chief was Abhimanyu Chauhan (3 wickets for 18 runs) who was assisted by Swapnil Singh (2,36).

It was due to Pinal Shah's captain's knock of 39 runs that had laid the foundation for victory of Baroda over the rivals.

Yusuf Pathan (17), Abhimanyu Chauhan (17) and Ketan Panchal (16 not out) that contributed in winning target of 114 runs for Baroda.

Javed Unadat took 2 wickets for 21 runs and Rakesh Dhruv plucked 2 wickets for 14 runs.
