Canossa High School, Mahim, confirmed their Super League berth after winning their fourth group match in a row in the U-16 girls’ category of the MSSA inter-school tournament held at Azad Maidan on Wednesday. The Mahim school beat Green Lawns HS, BP Road, 1-0, thereby leading their group with 12 points with one more match to go.

Playing without their ace striker Tejaswi Mangaonkar, who is currently representing Maharashtra, the girls in red had a shaky start. However, they regrouped well and Vaishnavi Shetty’s strike was enough for them to earn three points. Canossa could have doubled their lead. However, Sheryl Alphonso’s goal was ruled offside by the referee.

In the U-14 boys’ match, Don Bosco ‘A’, Matunga, thrashed St Mary’s ICSE, Mazgaon, 4-0. The Bosco boys continued their rampage on a rather mushy outfield. Their captain Nathan Fernandes led from the front by tackling and passing the ball well. Quentin Britto scored first for the Matunga-based school followed by Milando Naicker.

Bosco went into the half-time break up by two goals, but were relentless even after the change of ends. Keanu D’Souza scored the third, and soon after Neville D’Cunha added his name to the score sheet.

Bosco are currently at the top of the table with 7 points from three games. The team has one game left but it has already qualified for the Super League.
