Just about an hour before the Australia-England Women’s World Cup game at the CCI, 17-year-old Australian Holly Lee Ferling was told she would come in for Ellyse Perry.

Holly, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, who made her debut in Australia’s first match against Pakistan, had returned figures of 10/2. The Queenslander made an immediate impact on Friday, dismissing Danielle Wyatt off her first ball and then taking the crucial wicket of Lydia Greenway. “All I wanted to do was keep things simple. And I prayed that the English would make mistakes,” Holly said.

Holly and Ellyse have a few things in common. Both are fast-medium bowlers, and they even look alike. “I’ve always looked up to her. The similarity is that both of us tie our hair in a pony tail, but I use a ribbon and have slightly curly hair,” she said, flaunting her tresses. Holly took a deep breath and asked the media, “Hope I was fine? I get nervous during media interactions. Not used to it.” Soon, the ‘nervousness’ turned to laughter.
