Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm rapped the knuckles of British teenager Laura Robson with a 6-3 6-3 win in the first round of the Japan Open on Tuesday.      

The 40-year-old former top five player, who shocked Maria Sharapova at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last month, gave her 16-year-old opponent a torrid time in Osaka.

Sixth seed Date Krumm dropped her opening service game but quickly recovered her composure to close out the match in just 63 minutes.

Robson, who retired from her second-round match at last week's ITF Challenger event in Tokyo with dehydration, committed six double faults in a one-sided defeat.

Elsewhere, third seed Shahar Peer of Israel overpowered rising Japanese player Misaki Doi 6-2 6-3 while Ukraine's Olga Savchuk upset eighth seed Greta Arn of Hungary 6-1 6-2.
